Who is eligible to move their characters?
Players who have characters on an eligible high-population realm will be able to move their characters to a designated realm. Click here to see a list of eligible realms.

I have a character on one of the listed high-population realms. Where do I go to move my character?
Go to the support page for eligible realms and click the "Move a character" button there.

How did you decide what realms are eligible for moves?
We carefully choose the highest populations realms which will be eligible to move to a low-population realm. The decision to disperse the populations on these realms was made to increase realm performance and to alleviate queues.

When can I move my characters?
You can initiate the move at any time, but to not increase the load on the database during peak playing hours the moves are spread out over the day and mostly carried out in low activity hours. The migration page shows an estimate of the waiting time for your move.

Can I select which realm to move to?
You may be able to choose within a small number of designated low-population realms, though sometimes there will only be a single eligible destination realm. This is to ensure that the population disperses evenly.

What kind of realm type transfers are allowed in free character moves?
We take every step possible to offer transfers from source realms to destination realms of the same type (Normal (PvE) to Normal (PvE), PvP to PvP, RP to RP, etc.). However, there may be cases where we will offer PvP to Normal (PvE) transfers when we find they are necessary.

Do I have to rename my character?
If your character shares a name with an existing character on the realm you are moving to, you will have to rename your character (please check you naming policy before choosing a name).

Is this a completely new realm or were players already playing on this realm?
Some of the realms players will be transferring to are new realms we will open on the same day the transfer service will open. Some of those realms may still be existing very low-population realms, check the web news and forum thread about the migration for more information.

Can my entire guild move?
Yes, however in order to move, guilds will have to disband and reform on the new realm. In addition, guild leaders cannot transfer to the low-population realms unless they transfer leadership to another guild member or disband the guild. Note that you can’t transfer the entire guild in one operation – it’s up to the guild and each member to migrate their characters.

When can I move my character? My character or realm is not on the list of realms eligible for character transfers?
Please check the list here to see if you have a character on one of the realms eligible for character transfers. We will continue to evaluate population levels in the future. If a realm becomes severely over-populated we will open character transfers to the players on that realm.

Will you allow us to move our characters for free to the realm of our choice at some point?
The free character migration is offered to disperse the population evenly across the realms. For full flexibility in choosing your destination realm you will have to use the Paid Character Transfer service.

Can I move all my characters at once?
No, you have to move each character individually.

Help! I forgot where I transferred my character!
Your character will be immediately available to so you can begin playing immediately after you complete the transfer process. However, it could take a few hours before your character shows up on the realm list. You can find out where you transferred your character to by matching your old realm with your new realm on the list of eligible realms.

I transferred to the low-population realm and I don't like it. Can I move back?
No. Character transfers are one way.

Will my items transfer with my character? How are mail and auctions handled?
All items in both the inventory and the bank of the character will be transferred along with the character itself. If there is any mail in your mailbox at all -- including read items -- the character will be unavailable for the transfer. This is also true of mail in transit (i.e. the hour delay when mailing an item). Auctions made by the character will be cancelled at the time of the transfer, and the items being auctioned will be waiting in the mailbox for you on the new realm. Please clear out your mailbox before transferring.

I have an item in the Auction House with a very long Auction, what will happen?
If you try to move a character that has an item in the AH with a "very long Auction", your character migrate and you can reach your item in the mailbox of your arrival realm. But the item also stays on the old realm, and if someone on your departure realm tries to buy the item, this following message will appear: "the item could not be found".

What happens to my honor points?
Your honor points will be transferred along with your character; however, any honor accrued after the last honor calculation but before your transfer is initiated may be lost.

Will I still have my Arena points?
Yes, your arena points transfer with your character; however, any arena points accrued after the last maintenance but before your transfer is initiated may be lost. Also, your character will not have any arena team affiliation upon arrival at the destination realm.

What happens to my Arena rank if I transfer my character to a different account or realm?
Since the Arena teams are made up of players who are on the same realm, transferring a character in an Arena team to a new realm will remove that character from its team. And, since your character’s Arena rank is based on the performance of your team, transferring the character to a new realm will result in the loss of that character’s Arena rank.

Will I lose my Arena rank if I transfer my character to another account that I play World of Warcraft with?
Yes, even though the character may remain on the same realm, being associated with a different account will reset its Arena rank. The character can still participate in Arena ladder matches; however, if the character doesn’t reach the required Arena rank by the end of the ladder portion of the tournament, then that character will not be able to continue on into the qualifying rounds. The team may continue on without that character, but losing a character may hurt their odds of success against other teams.

If I am the team captain for my Arena team, what happens to my team should I choose to transfer my character to a different account or realm?
You will need to promote someone else on your team to captain before you transfer. Otherwise, your team will be leaderless and will require game master assistance to appoint a new captain.
