We're looking for stories about the World of Warcraft written by people who play and love the game. Whether adventure, romance, comedy or tragedy, our goblin editors are on the hunt for the best tales of life in the world of Azeroth.
The World of Warcraft Universe
In order to have a chance being published in the Gadgetzan Times, submitted fanfiction must be about the Warcraft Universe, including games as Warcraft, Warcraft II and World of Warcraft. You should ensure that your fanfiction is coherent with the Warcraft universe and history. You still can write a “What if” version of the Warcraft history but avoid mixing the Warcraft universe with other universes. So, Zergs should not invade Azeroth and neither Diablo, nor Spock, should siege near Archimonde at the head of the Burning Legion.
Fanfiction must be kept short
By keeping your story short, you raise your chance to see your fanfiction published. If you still want to write a long story, you will need to divide it into multiple chapters with titles.
Fanfiction must be readable by general audiences (12+)
As World of Warcraft is intended for a large audience, we invite you to write fanfiction readable by people aged 12 or more. Fanfiction which is unsuitable for this audience will not be considered for publication.
Style and Content Guidelines
While style and content are very much the choice of the author, we do have some suggestions about how to ensure that your story gets pride of place in the Gadgetzan Times. Read the
Submission Guidelines for more information.
Submission Format
All fan fiction submissions will need to include the following information in order to be considered for publication. We can only accept submissions in English, French, German or Spanish.
- Title of Story
- Author (your real name, and the name you wish to be published under – this can be your World of Warcraft character)
- Screenshot of the character submitting the story (if you want to attribute the story to your WoW character)
- Screenshots if useful to tell the story
- Your country of residence
- The story itself
Submit your story in a word document or rich text format. Stories should be between 2500 characters (including spaces) and 7500 characters. If your story is longer than this you will need to break it down into chapters.
Screenshots should be included exactly as taken in game, without reformatting or modification. Save each screenshot as a separate file.
If your story is chosen for publication you will need to agree to the
Terms and Conditions. Make sure you have read the Terms and understood them before submitting your story.
Send your submission from your regularly used email address as we may need to get in touch with you about your submission.
