he droning of the officers began to lull Delora to sleep as she listened to them discussing the future of her people. She shifted her position slightly to try to quell the numbness that was creeping through her bent legs beneath her. They began to tingle slightly as her circulation began to recover.
“I’m bored,” she sent silently to her father, who was seated just across from her.
“So do something to change that,” he sent back to her.
She bit her lip as she contemplated. It couldn’t be as easy as that, but his quick answer was enough to cause her to search the room for something (or someone) to entertain herself with. After a few moments her eyes alighted on Rhovan. He intrigued her. She had known him to be an able leader when taking on encounters within some of the most dangerous reaches of the Molten Core, but more than that she couldn’t say about him. Perhaps it was time she got to know him better…
There is something about the nature of MMORPGs that can do more than just connect people to a game world -- it can connect them to each other. In many cases that can mean a friendship in which distance has no meaning. And in some cases it can mean much more.
Delora had been an avid first–person-shooter player before she ever became interested in playing World of Warcraft. By her account, it was the panda pet that came with the Collector’s Edition that made the purchase all the more intriguing to her. Even her parents became interested in the game after fighting over the free trial that came with it, and both are now avid World of Warcraft players, logging in regularly with Delora.
For Delora, this would be her first experience playing an MMORPG, but for Rhovan it was a different story.
Rhovan was a veteran player before he ever heard of World of Warcraft, having played a variety of MMORPGs over the past few years. By his account, he had been uninterested in World of Warcraft at first, but his best friend convinced him to give it a try. Soon enough, he found himself loving the game and excelling as a raid leader.
It was ultimately a guild meeting, as described above, that brought this hunter and this druid together. After that first fateful day, however, their flirtations went on to become something more
as they got to know each other beyond just the role-play they had initiated during their first encounter. They began arranging time together in person and found that what had started innocently enough had a much deeper meaning. Eventually, Delora and Rhovan had discovered that they were in love.
What had started as a chance meeting in World of Warcraft has lead to much more than either of them had ever expected. Delora and Rhovan were married in May of 2006 and now have a beautiful daughter together. While Rhovan doesn’t have the same amount of time to devote to leading raids anymore, he and Delora have gained so much more in creating a family together. Some would say that it was fate and others would say it was destiny. For Rhovan and Delora and others like them, it is what was meant to be.
