Guild Drama
Everyone talks about guild drama. Let me tell you about mine.
My guild was in Molten Core. We had it on farm, so we were basically going through the motions, making sure that all of our new recruits were geared up correctly for our Blackwing Lair runs. We got to Shazzrah, where I (as a rogue) had the job of standing around with a bow or gun. Not very rogue-like, to be sure. Being Combat-specced, I wanted to be in the thick of it, fighting alongside the main tank.
The fight begins, and all of a sudden we yell over VOIP “FOR THE ALLIAAAANNNCE!” and I and four other rogues rush in and start meleeing Shazzrah. Our guild is exploding over Vent, talking about how we’re going to wipe now. Our tank is yelling. Our healers are going crazy. But the rogues are alive!
Shazzrah is very vulnerable to melee. The day before, the rest of the rogues and I had bought full sets of leather Arcane resist gear, spending a lot of gold, just so we could go in and surprise our guild with a quick melee Shazzrah kill. With our resists up that high, we barely got hit with any of his Arcane Explosions, and we all survived the fight to bask in our victory (and the heart attacks of the rest of our guild).
The gear wasn’t going to bring us victory anywhere else. The investment wasn’t for something permanent or even remotely lasting. But those few moments—in with my friends, laughing our heads off, destroying a boss who had relegated us to the sidelines for so long—that’s the kind of togetherness that World of Warcraft can bring a group.
